Dry Clean Sisal Rug

If a sisal rug gets wet even if it is just with water it is important to dry the rug as quickly as possible.

The first and most important rule for cleaning sisal is to never wet shampoo or clean. Plant fibers are highly absorbent so when exposed to liquids or excessive dampness they are subject to some shrinking and puckering.

Remember that sisal is a very absorbent fiber. Do not steam clean or wet shampoo your sisal rug. Many times the stain disappears. But regular wear and tear and cleaning can decrease its effectiveness.

Sisal carpet cleaning is not a standard cleaning procedure. Never steam clean wet shampoo or any other method that involves water saturation on a natural fiber rug. Using liquids on a jute rug can cause discoloration and should be only limited to spot cleaning. Vacuum up the dry shampoo and flip the rug over to repeat on the other side.

Dry the carpet as soon as you can to avoid warping or additional water marking. Dry immediately with a hairdryer or fan. A fabric protectant may be applied to both types of sisal rugs during the manufacturing process or by the consumer. Leave the powder to sit on the rug for about one hour in order to absorb all the dirt.

Shake host dry carpet cleaner onto the spill until covered. Sprinkle the dry shampoo on the rug and allow it to sit for a couple of hours.
